PORTSMOUTH - Donald M. Smith, 60, of the 100 block of Hardy Place, went to be in the presence of the Lord Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011. A native of Portsmouth, Donald was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where he served as a faithful member of the choir. He was also a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Portsmouth Civil War Round Table. He was an honorary member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. He graduated from Cradock High School in 1969. He was employed by Lincoln Military Housing. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Brenda R. Smith; parents, Doris and William Smith of Portsmouth; sister, Joy Smith and husband Arnell of Woodstock, Ala.; aunt and uncle, Margaret and David Allen of Portsmouth; two sisters-in-law, Sandra Diggs of Portsmouth and Judy Tyson of Chesapeake; two nephews, Michael Smith of Portsmouth and Nathan Smith of Texas; a niece, Crystal Smith of Woodstock; and two great-nephews, Derric and Nolyn Smith. A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Alliance Church, Portsmouth. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel.
