Ronald Leigh Snipes, 52, of the 3100 block of Trumpet Road, died Feb. 27, 2003 in his home.

Mr. Snipes, a native of Portsmouth, was a nuclear electronic engineer at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard with 30 years of service. He was a member of the Federal Managers Association and was retired from the U.S. Army Reserve after 31 years.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus 418 and St. Paul's Fourth Degree Assembly 1166. He was a founder of Western Branch Little League and served as its president four years; founder and president of Western Branch Wrestling Club; scout master of Chesapeake Troop 228/259 BSA; and vice-president of Western Branch Orchestra. He was also a Western Branch Athletic Club coach and a Western Branch slow pitch girl's softball coach. He was a member of St. Therese's Catholic Church and the son of the late Jack G. Snipes.

Survivors include his wife, Petrina ''Petey'' D'Alesandro Snipes; his mother, Virginia Rountree Snipes of Portsmouth; four children, Michael Porter, Emily D. Snipes, Anna Leigh Snipes and Nick Snipes, all of Chesapeake; a brother, Richard G. Snipes of Portsmouth; and dear friend, Jimmy Culpepper of Chesapeake.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Tuesday in St. Therese's Catholic Church by the Rev. Robert Cummins. Burial, with military honors, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is handling arrangements.
