Janie Maynard Bass, beloved mother of Kymberly A. Hagwood, was embraced by the Lord on April 30, 1998.

The family touched by her love and generosity includes her father, James H. Maynard; her brothers, Jim Maynard and Doug Maynard; and her sister, Nary Maynard. It is impossible to name all the family and friends who were loved and inspired by Janie.

She was an amazing woman with a lot of love to give. Janie graduated from Cradock High School in 1965 and went on to have a highly successful and well-respected career in the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

She will be remembered most as a wonderful daughter, sister, friend and the best mother a daughter could wish for. Her family and friends will never forget her and will always love her. Janie has truly left her mark on all. We are at peace knowing she is now in heaven with her mother, Lois Maynard; her sister, Virginia Maynard; and our Lord God.

Family and friends will gather in the chapel at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd., Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a memorial service celebrating her life. Following the service, the family will receive friends at 2421 Lakewood Lane, Chesapeake, in Stonebridge Landing.
