Vollie Bruce Keaton, 51, died Monday, April 12, 1999, in a local hospital.

Bruce was born April 29, 1947, in Anderson, S.C., and graduated in 1965 from Cradock High School, Portsmouth. Bruce joined the Army right out of high school in 1965 and earned a top secret cryptological clearance in the Army security agency. Bruce served in Vietnam, Taiwan, Udorn Thailand, as well as two tours in Germany and other assignments throughout the United States including Goodfellow A.F.B. where he retired in 1987 after 22 years of proud service.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Kathy; his two sons, Phillip Dustin Boyes and wife, Maria, and granddaughter, Katlina Galleya of Dyess A.F.B., Texas, and Vollie Scott Keaton and wife, Melissa, and granddaughters, Ashley and Stephanie of San Angelo; his mother, Evelyn Hill of Bensalem, Pa.; two sisters, Ann McCall of Travelers Rest, S.C., and Jan Acerra of Highland, N.J.; a brother, Eric Seymore of Easley, S.C.; two stepbrothers, Mickey and Bud Bass of Portsmouth; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family who thought the world of Bruce. Bruce was predeceased by his father, Vollie Lorenzo Dow Keaton.

A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens by Chaplain Charles Cornelisse. The family will receive friends at the home following the service. Johnsons' Funeral Home is in charge.
