Portsmouth – Betty Ruth Burchett, 39, of 620 McLean St., a native of Portsmouth, died Friday in a hospital. Mrs. Burchett was a cashier at Be-Lo Supermarket. She was a member of Academy Park Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Dewey H. Burchett Jr.; her mother, Hazel Virginia Marley Mills of Chesapeake; two sons, Jeffery Lee Burchett and Daniel Lee Burchett, both of Portsmouth; a sister, Helen Gavin of Portsmouth; and three brothers, Marvin J. Mills, Kenneth R. Mills and Earl L. Mills, all of Chesapeake.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Sturtevant Funeral Chapel by the Revs. Gene Wright and Jack Morgan. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.

The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
