George W. ``Butch'' Griffin Jr., 54, went to heaven on Friday, Oct. 29, 1999.

A native of Portsmouth, he was a master brickmason for 35 years at Sprinkle Masonry Inc. in Chesapeake. He was a member of the Floyd Byrd Hunt Club and the Brickmason's Union.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Diana Jo Boyd Griffin; three daughters, Lisa Diane Griffin of Suffolk, and Dawn Johnson and Linda Borum, both of Portsmouth; a son, Michael Boyd of Portsmouth; two sisters, Leah Brooks of Colorado and Linda Griffin of Portsmouth; two brothers, Ronnie Griffin of Portsmouth and Glenn Griffin of Durham, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Brandon and Melissa Borum, Crystal and Heather Adams, Tiffany Drenkhahn and Michael Boyd Jr., all of Portsmouth; many nieces and nephews; and a large circle of friends who always will remember him as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Butch's ever-present smile will be long remembered and greatly missed.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, by the Rev. Deb Jenkins. Cremation will follow the service. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday.
