CARRSVILLE - Len R. Benson Jr., 64, died April 22, 2008, in his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Franklin, a son of the late Jennie Sue Cutchins Benson and Len R. Benson Sr. Len was also predeceased by a son, Michael Wayne Benson Sr. and a brother, Earl Benson. He was a retired Quality Assurance Specialist with SUPSHIP in Newport News, member of the Suffolk Golf Association and a member of Mount Carmel Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Diane Duck Benson; one son, Randy D. Benson and wife Stephanie of Lutz, Fla.; one sister, Josephine B. Poe of Charleston, S.C.; five grandchildren, Michael Wayne Benson Jr., Ryan P. Benson, Nicholas Benson, John Benson, Mackenzie Benson; three stepgrandchildren, Jimmy, Bobby and Crystal; and one great-grandson, Michael W. Benson III.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with Bishop James M. Poe and the Rev. Jay Gunn officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
