William E. Dean, 50, of Ambler, Horsham Township, died Thursday at Abington Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Linda Carol (Van Doren) Dean. Born in Norfolk, Va., he was the son of Elaine (Keller) Dean, and the late Willie L. Dean.

Prior to his retirement, after 20 years of service in 1987, Mr. Dean was a U.S. Navy commander and pilot, specializing in anti-submarine warfare. He was stationed at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station, Horsham.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, William E. Dean Jr. of Ambler. Funeral services were held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were by the James R. Baskwill Funeral Home Inc., Hatboro.
