Callie Sue Woody Scholes, 64, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord Sept. 28, 2007, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Sue was a native and lifelong resident of Portsmouth.

She was predeceased by her parents, John and Beulah Woody and her brother, Thomas Clifton Woody. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert K. Scholes; daughter, Karen Spruill and her husband Gregory and their son, Macon and daughter, Rachel of Virginia Beach; daughter, Kimberly Seay and her husband Michael and their daughters, Hannah and Haley of Portsmouth; and son, John Scholes and his wife Jennifer and their son, Jake of Suffolk; a brother, John C. Woody Jr. and his wife Carole; and sister-in-law, Jean Woody, widow of Thomas Clifton Woody, all of Portsmouth and their families.

Sue was a graduate of Cradock High School and was a career civil servant with the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. She was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church and was a kind and wonderful woman who loved the Lord, her family and her friends. She had a great sense of humor and, together with her husband, Bob, made the world a better place for her children, grandchildren, friends and all who knew her.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. T.M. Frye. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Biltmore Baptist Church Building Fund.
