SMITHFIELD - Carolyn Mason Taylor, 59, of the 19000 block of Beechwood Lane, died April 27, 2003, in her residence. She was a native of Portsmouth and a member of Carrollton Baptist Church. She was a co-founder of the College Art Gallery in Smithfield.

Survivors include her husband, Byron R. Taylor Jr.; a daughter, Sheria T. Pidgeon of Chesapeake; a son, Richard Taylor of Smithfield; two sisters, Erma Louise Little of Farmville, Va., and Barbara Vick of Chesapeake; a brother, George F. Mason Jr. of Suffolk; and three grandchildren, Chelsea Leigh Pidgeon, Lindsay Marie and Matthew Allen Taylor.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, by the Rev. Lee Hess. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Gideons International.
