CHESAPEAKE - Joan Carole Ferguson Walter, 59, of the 1700 block of Stoney Creek Arch, Chesapeake, died March 7, 2003, in her residence. She was a native of Portsmouth, Va., and was employed as a clerk for Barnes & Noble.

She is survived by her husband, James R. Walter; parents, William B. Ferguson and Doris M. Ferguson of Chesapeake; two sons, William Mark Hurst of Mathews County, Va., and Michael E. Hurst of James Store, Va.; two sisters, Barbara Creasy of Chesapeake, Va., and Susan Chapman of Freedom, N.H.; one brother, William A. Ferguson of Chesapeake, Va.; two grandchildren, Tanner and Jordan.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 10, in Greenlawn Mausoleum Chapel by the Rev. Thomas L. Mercer Sr. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel.
