William Dan "Bill" Whitener

Chesapeake - William Dan "Bill" Whitener, 71, of the 1400 block of
Boxwood Dr. passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2012 in his residence. He
was born on October 27, 1940 in Clover, SC and was preceded in death by
his parents, Henry and Martha Whitener and a sister, Luanne Carlson.
Bill was a graduate of Cradock High School and retired as a fire chief
for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth.

He is survived by his wife, Christel Whitener; two daughters, Daniela L.
Beatty and Sandra "Peanut" Whitlow; a sister, Martha Jane Wade; a
brother, James E. Whitener and his wife Adele; four grandchildren,
Michael Beatty and his wife Tisha, Jonathan McCoy, Ashley Booth and
husband Tim, and Christel Elliott and husband Johnathan; and six great
grandchildren, David, Rikki, Kai, Aayden, McKenzie and Braxton.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in
Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Burial will be private
in Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. The family will receive
friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to D.A.V. Disabled American
Veterans.
