Richard A. Johnson
 


Chesapeake - Richard A. Johnson, 68, a loving husband and father of three girls, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 4, 2009.

 

A longtime resident of Chesapeake, he was a graduate of Cradock High School and the NNSY Apprentice program where he retired from Combat Systems a GS-12 in 1999 after 30 years of civil service. He was a member of Believers Church and "everyone's dad" on the Country Cloggers and the Flatland Cloggers.

 

He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Murray Johnson Jr., and his only sister, Sylvia White.

 

He is most cherished and survived by his wife of 50 years and only love of his life, Marie Hufton Johnson; his children, Darlene and David Miller, Lisa and John Delos Angeles, Cindee and Curtis Hawkins and grandchildren, Chris, Miranda, Jon-Jon, Madysen, Savannah, Julian, Mitchell and Marissa; his brother, Maurice "Sonny" Johnson and wife Lona; his brother, William "Billy" Hufton and wife Phyllis; many adored nieces and nephews. He was the brightest spot in any room and his life was a blessing to all whom he touched.

 

The family wishes to offer a special thank you to Sharon Souza and Chuck Wright and the Sentara Hospice Organization. A funeral will be held today at 3:30 p.m. in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, by Pastor Jamey Stuart. Family will receive friends at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
