PORTSMOUTH - Glenn Barry Dail, 70, died peacefully at his home in Portsmouth Friday, May 6, 2011 following a lingering illness.

 

Born July 26, 1940 in North Carolina, he moved to Virginia as a youngster and made Portsmouth his home. He is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Janet Thompson; a son, Daniel of Portsmouth; a daughter, Angela Lille (Kevin); three beloved grandchildren, Jake, Chase and Avary Lille of Lake Suzy, Fla.; a sister, Janice Webster (James) of Elizabeth City, N.C.; and two brothers, Lindsay (Gloria) of Chesapeake and Laddie of Atlanta.

 

After graduating from Cradock High School in 1959, Barry served in the U.S. Army for four years, received an honorable discharge and began working at Lucent Technologies where he stayed until his retirement in 2001.

 

Barry enjoyed Southern gospel music and sang in a gospel quartet for many years. He was an accomplished woodworker and took great pride in his family, his home and his do-it-yourself projects.

 

A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Suffolk. Visitation hours are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Union Mission in Norfolk. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com.
