Services will be Wednesday for Paul Louis Billy, a librarian who ran the second floor of Broward County's Main Library in Fort Lauderdale. Mr. Billy died on Sunday. He was 50.

Mr. Billy's first job in Broward was director of Pine Crest High School's library. In 1976, he became director of the Deerfield Beach's Percy White Library, which was incorporated into the county system four years later.

He helped oversee construction of the Main Library, later serving as building manager for it and all 23 branches. He was coordinator of programs and special events before taking over the Main Library's second floor.

The son of a U.S. Naval officer, Mr. Billy began what was to be a peripatetic life at a young age, moving to Naples, Italy, as a boy. He worked for the FBI, served in the U.S. Navy, and later taught English in the Middle East. He traveled through Europe, Africa, Russia the Middle East and India.

'He was very outgoing, a lot of fun to be around, witty, charming, 'co- worker and friend Stephen Kerr said.

Mr. Billy is survived by a daughter, Jocelyn Marie, of Huntington, W. Va; his mother, Loretta Vanasse Billy; a sister, Barbara Coker Frydenger; three nieces and a nephew. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Helen Catholic Church, 3340 W. Oakland Park Blvd., Lauderdale Lakes.
