Mary Rae Byrd Murphy, 71, of Colonial Heights, passed away Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 at Retreat Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Charlie Robert Byrd and Grudie Byrd and was the widow of Theodore G. Murphy.

Mrs. Murphy is survived by her children, Dorothe Rae Dawson of Colonial Heights, Diana Minson and husband Aubrey of Chester, and Donald Robert Murphy of Colonial Heights; grandchildren, Jamie Leigh Murphy, Shane Dawson and Travis Scott Minson; a sister, Renn Hance of Florida, and a chosen daughter Kay Timperio.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday Jan. 18, 2010, in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home and Crematory 2033 Boulevard. Burial will be in Baptist Church Cemetery, Scotland Neck, N.C., on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010 at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
