Class of 1956

 

SUNBURY, NC – Marvin O. Fisher, 79, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family and went to be with his Savior on Sunday, June 4, 2017.

 

He was born in Lynchburg, VA on October 8, 1937 and moved to Portsmouth, VA in his childhood years to the community of Academy Park and he was a Cradock High School Alumni of 1956. Marvin was the second oldest of 4 siblings and he is survived by his beloved wife of 17 years, Martha L. Fisher. They lived a beautiful life together.

 

Marvin is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Owen and Ethel Fisher, as well as his younger brother, Johnny Fisher.

 

Marvin’s love for life and laughter was contagious. His lifetime passions were his love of God, church, family, friends, children, grandchildren, bowling, baseball, football, Nascar, maintaining his lawn and flower gardens, his two dogs, Chloe and Sophia, and his cat, Buttons. Marvin also loved good home cooking, cookouts and especially enjoyed his Man Cave. Marvin was quite the baseball player and coach in his younger life and he was passionate about bowling in which he was honored to represent the State of NC in the Senior Citizens Olympics in San Jose, CA in 2009.

 

Left to cherish his precious memories are his loving wife, Martha L. Fisher; his two daughters, Florence Hugen and her husband Brian of Va. Beach and Robin Fisher of Southampton Co.; a son, Martin Fisher and wife Denise of Versailles, MO; two step-daughters, Rebecca Fowler and her husband David of Chesapeake and Ann Outlaw of Va. Beach; two stepsons, Tommy Carroll of Va. Beach and George Carroll of Honolulu, HI; twelve grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; his 4 legged daughters Sophia and Buttons; many nieces and nephews; and two sisters, Shirley Lee and husband Bill of Wake Forest, NC and Peggy White of Suffolk.

He is now in heaven with our Almighty Father, beloved loved ones and all of his 4 legged babies. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

 

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel by Pastor Josh Horne. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at the family’s home in Sunbury, NC after the graveside service.
