Martha H. Meekins

SOUTHERN SHORES - Martha Hornik Meekins, 65, died March 20, 2003 at Outer Banks Hospital. Mrs. Meekins was born in Norfolk and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Dunes of Dare Garden Club and a member of Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. Mrs. Meekins was the daughter of the late Francis Joseph and Lura Mears Hornik.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Armstead Meekins of the residence; two daughters, Debbie Wight and husband Jim of Pleasant Garden, N.C. and Shay Somers of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; a brother, Francis J. ''Buddy'' Hornik and wife Paula of Chesapeake; and grandchildren, Krissy Briers and husband Charlton of Greensboro, N.C., Adam Novak and Allison Novak both of Kill Devil Hills.

A funeral will be held at Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Stone and the Rev. Brad Bradshaw officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, on Monday at 10 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Dare County SPCA, P.O.
