William Eldridge Cartwright Jr., 65, Sarasota, died May 22, 2002.

He was born March 23, 1937, in Elizabeth City, N.C., and came to Sarasota in 1999 from McLean, Va., when he retired as a Navy lieutenant commander. He graduated in 1960 from Annapolis Naval Academy as an engineer. He was a Methodist.

Survivors include a sister, Anne K. Little of Somerset, Ky.

A private memorial service will be later. The Good Earth Crematory, Bradenton, is in charge.
