IVA -- Joseph Vernon Bullock, 69, of 9735 S.C. 81 South died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at Anderson Area Medical Center in Anderson.

Born in Portsmouth, Va., he was the son of the late Sydney Vernon Bullock and Mildred Belch Bullock. He was retired chief yeoman of the U.S. Coast Guard and also retired from Bell Atlantic. He was a member of Iva Pentecostal Holiness Church, served as a deacon, teacher of the men's Bible class, director of the men's ministry and was a member of the choir.

Surviving are widow, Mary Magdalene Cole Bullock of the home; stepsons, Julius O'Neal Aldrich Jr. of Prosperity, Charles "Bobby" Aldrich of Toccoa, Ga., and Enoch Dexter Aldrich of the home; stepdaughter, Millie Jane Pigott of Sumter; sister, E. Pat Meadows of Portsmouth; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home by the Rev. Billy Pinson. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with military rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

The family will be at the residence.
