Funeral services Tuesday for Nellie Heavrin

Funeral services for Nellie Ann Heavrin, 60, Mtn. View, will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday,
April 29, 1997, at Pomona Christian Church under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home, Mtn. View, with Pastors Rich Wheeler, Charles Ferguson and Marcus Allen officiating.

Mrs.. Heavrin died at 3:50 a.m. Sunday, April 27, 1997, at West Vue Home, Inc., West Plains. She was born Feb. 18, 1937 at Columbia, N.C., the daughter of Joseph Marshall and Ida Bell White Armstrong.

On Oct. 14, 1954, at Chesapeake, VA, she married Robert Nicholas "Nick" Heavrin, Sr.

She graduated from Cradock High School at Portsmouth, VA. In 1968, she and her husband, Nick, began working for Cookson Hills Children's Home, Pomona, and served as managers of the home for 12 years. They worked at the home for 18 years helping to nurture and raise more than 90 children. Following her retirement, she worked as a bookkeeper. In 1995, she and Nick began managing Rock Garden Christian Service Camp at the site of the former children's home. She was a member of Pomona Christian Church and was active in church activities serving as Sunday School teacher, organist and pianist.

Survivors include her husband, Nick, of the family home; two sons, Robert N. "Chip" Heavrin, Jr. and wife, Julie, West Plains, and Ervin Cockrell, of the family home; two daughters, Christine Combs and husband, Tim, Eminence, and Nikki Hamilton and husband, Tom, West Plains; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Combs, Jeremy Combs, Tommy Hamilton and Danielle Heavrin; and several children who considered Nellie their mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rock Garden Christian Service Camp and left at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Mount Zion Cemetery, Pomona, under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home.
