Edward Bane "Pete" Henkle, Jr., age 68, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, in the presence of his family.
He was born on Jan. 28, 1937, in Roceverte, WVa., and resided in Niceville, Fla. Pete was a temperature control engineer with Johnson Controls for 29 years. He retired to the Niceville area, where for 13 years he enjoyed boating, traveling and his extended family.
Loving husband, father, friend and pop-pop, Pete was equally at home on the water and with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Norma K. Henkle; daughter, Diane H. Branon and husband Michael; son, James Michael and wife Shirley, son Robert Andrew and wife Michele; and was predeceased by his son, John Edward. He is also survived by his mother, Margery Henry; grandchildren, Sarah Catharine, Nicholas John, Jessica Layne, Elizabeth Joy, Kristen Hope, Benjamin James, Peter John and Owen Bane. Surviving siblings are Carolyn H. Penrose and husband Walt, Charles Andrew Henkle and wife Carolyn, and Kenneth Lee Henkle and wife Patricia.
Pete was a strong man with a ready laugh and a formidable bear hug. He felt privileged to have friends and family who enriched his life. We pray that our souls will meet again and give thanks for a life well lived.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. at McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral in Niceville.
