Miles John Winters
Class of 1952


 

 

PORTSMOUTH - Miles John Winters Jr., 77, of Ward Terrace, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010 in Virginia Beach. John was born in Portsmouth, the son of the late Miles and Shirley Still Winters. Growing up in Cradock, he was in the Class of 1952 of Cradock High School. John was a U.S. Army veteran, later on receiving his master's degree from the College of William and Mary. He was a retired facilities planner with the federal government. John was a member of Court Street Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his daughter, Nikki Winters. Survivors include his seven cousins, Judy Langreder, Ray Hughes, Jack Hughes, Emilie W. Puckett, Jerree Anderson, Christina Shaak and Glenn Winters; his fiancée, Margie Foresman; Nikki's mother, Deanna Cobb; John's dear friends, Wendy and Bill Thompson and many other friends he has made in his lifetime. A graveside funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, by the Rev. Dr. L. Wilburn Kersey in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Court Street Baptist Church, 447 Court St., Portsmouth, VA 23704 or The Holiday House, 4211 County St., Portsmouth, VA 23707.
