EDENTON - George E. Burgess, 73, died Oct. 23, 2007, in Chowan Hospital.

Mr. Burgess, a native of Flatwoods, Ky., was a 1953 graduate of Cradock High School in Portsmouth. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a boilermaker after 15 years of service and later worked as a real estate agent at various companies in the Portsmouth area including Kline Realty.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Casey Burgess; two sons, G. Michael Burgess of Albuquerque, N.C., and Gary Burgess of Chesapeake; a stepson, Dana A. Nicholas and wife Colleen of New Rochelle, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren, Casey A. Nicholas and Cathryn Nicholas.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Meadowbrook Mausoleum Chapel, Suffolk. Friends may join the family from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
