Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - April 3, 2018

Virginia Beach - It is with great sadness that Eugene Lee Worley , Sr., age 87, passed away on April 1, 2018. He had been ill for the past 2 months, was in therapy and making great progress; fighting hard to return to the life he loved. To know Gene, was to love him.

Gene was born in Portsmouth, VA and lived in Virginia Beach since 1959. As a young man, he worked as a flower delivery boy and school bus driver. He was Player of the Year for Cradock High School Football team in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War in Germany 1951-1953, 97th Signal Battalion Association. After returning from Germany, he began his career in real estate with Kutz & Fentress Residential Real Estate. He was a Sr. Vice President with Harvey Lindsay Commercial Real Estate and enjoyed his career with Harvey Lindsay for 60 years.

Gene had a great love for the outdoors, fishing and deer hunting. He taught his son to hunt when he was just 3 years old, carrying him on his shoulders to look for deer when his son was too tired to walk the woods. Together, they enjoyed endless hours at Sunbeam Hunt Club in Franklin, VA, where Gene served as President of Sunbeam Hunt Club. He was also a member of Camp P. D. Hunt Club in Como, NC. He had a passion for searching for Indian Arrowheads in the fields at Sunbeam and always looked for the perfect Arrowhead. Gene could talk for hours and hours about his weekends hunting and fishing. He established many life-long friends from his hunting adventures and could always tell a story about the deer that got away. He had a love for antique cars and spent many hours totally rebuilding a 1932 Ford with his son and best friend, Chip. He could tell you about every nut and bolt that went into rebuilding it. Gene, simply loved life and lived each day to its fullest.

He was predeceased by his parents, Gertrude Lee Worley and William Clarence Worley and his brothers William and Bobby Worley . He is survived by his wife, the love of his life and his high school sweetheart, Joyce Kaps Worley . Left to cherish his memory are his children, Vicki Worley Whited and husband Tim, Kimberly Jane Worley Williams, Eugene L. Worley , Jr. (Chip) his wife Kimberly and his grandchildren, Kyle Boettner, Thomas Coghill, III, and Jonathan & Blake Whited.
