Donald O'Neil Lankford Sr., 70, of the 3100 block of Martin Johnson Road, went home to be with his Lord July 4, 2002, in a Portsmouth hospital.

Born in Hallwood, Va., he retired from Metallurgic Inspector Code 135, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, was a member of Wilroy Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara S. Lankford; a daughter, Karen England and husband Rusty of Chesapeake; a son, Donald Lankford Jr. and wife Connie of Chesapeake; two sisters, Louise Shay of New Church, Va., and Hazel Smoyer of New Port Richie, Fla.; two brothers, Johnnie Lankford of Hallwood, Va., and Herman Lankford of Dinwiddie, Va.; five grandchildren, Emily Miller, Jennifer Lankford, Sarah Dorcsis, Justin England and Catherine England; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Daniel Miller.
