CHESAPEAKE - Charles "Dickie" Richard Crews Sr., 80, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2010. He was a native of Bluefield, W.Va., and was the son of the late Aubrey and Clara Crews. He graduated with the class of 1950 from Cradock High School and retired from the NNSY Co-Op Association. After retirement he worked with Zelinsky Grocery Store and Farm Fresh on Cedar Road in Chesapeake. He attended Deep Creek Baptist Church and Deep Creek United Methodist Church. He was on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Annual Gospel Singing Convention and was a member of Portsmouth Moose Lodge No. 898. He was predeceased by his son, Charles "Rick" R. Crews Jr. He is survived by his wife, Carolee Crews; a daughter, Billie Sue Ackerman and husband Marty; a son, Denny Carr and wife Miralyn; a daughter-in-law, Tammy Crews; and four grandchildren, Richie and Jeremy Crews and Joshua and Ashley Ackerman. A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, April 1, at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
