Johnnie Lanier "Pooky" Wood

Chesapeake - Johnnie Lanier "Pooky" Wood, 83, went to be with his
Lord, Saturday, December 28, 2013. He was born in Portsmouth to the
late John and Helen Wood. He was a U.S. Navy Korean War Veteran and
retired after 43 years from Civil Service. He loved to hunt and fish
and he coached Cradock Little League baseball for twenty years. He
was a member of Portsmouth Moose Lodge and VFW. He is predeceased by
his first wife, Mary Frances Wood and a brother, Danny R. Wood.
He is survived by his wife, Lilly Faye Wood; two sons, John L. Wood
and wife Cindy and Kelly J. Wood and wife Lorie; a brother, Robert
T. Wood; three grandchildren, Jenna Grant, Daniel Wood and Jordan
Wood; Faye's children, Kenneth Burnham and wife Samantha, Willie L.
Burnham and wife Tracey and J.B. Burnham and wife Trish; and eight
step-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 3 P.M. Tuesday, December 31, at
Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel by the Rev. Frank
Jennings. Burial with military honors will follow in Olive Branch
Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday
from 7 – 8:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made
to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
