CHESAPEAKE - Billy W. Raynor Sr., 78, has gone to be with the Lord. He died Aug. 23, 2009. Born in Harnett County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Jeppie and Stella Mae Raynor. He was a graduate of Cradock High School, attended the College of William & Mary, Norfolk extension and served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a prominent businessman of Tidewater. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Sherry Gardner Raynor; a daughter, Christine Read and husband Donnie (whom he loved as a son) of Chesapeake; two sons, Billy Raynor Jr. and wife Shirley of Tennessee and John Raynor of Florida; his grandchildren, Donald Read III, Jacquelyn Read, Christian Read and Matthew Raynor; a step grandson, Will; and two brothers, Russell Raynor and Alton Raynor. He was predeceased by a brother, Leonard Raynor. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Revs. Shannon Joyner and Marie Pogoreiec. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery.
