Shelton Jones 3/7/1930 - 3/26/2015
Mr. Revus Shelton Jones, 85, died suddenly at Forsyth Medical Center
on Thursday, March 26, 2015. He had been in declining health for
some time. He was born March 7, 1930 to Revus Sylvester and Sarah
Elizabeth Jones, who were farmers in Selma, NC. Shelton graduated
from Cradock High School in Portsmouth VA and then spent 4 years in
the U.S. Air force. He then attended William and Mary University
before earning a Bachelors and Masters Degree from Virginia Tech.
Three of his siblings are already gone and he has one sister, Vera
Creech in Waycross, GA. Before going to Tech he and his wife eloped
to Wilson, NC. A very unusual arrangement because Shelton was going
to Tech in Blacksburg VA and Dee (Daphne) was in nursing school in
Portsmoth, VA. By the time they graduated Dee was pregnant with
their first child. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Daphne
Jones and three daughters: Toni Blackburn (Clyde), Karen Widener
(John) and Anne Jones Swepston (Chuck). He is also survived by 5
grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Shelton and family moved
to WS when he took a job at Forsyth Tech, where he taught and then
worked in administration until retirement. The family attended
Ardmore Moravian Church for many years. Later they moved to Calvary
Moravian Church. Shelton was a kind and gracious man and loved by
many people. A Celebration of his life will be held 3:00 pm on
Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Calvary Moravian Church. The family will
receive friends in the narthex after the service. The family
requests memorials be made to Calvary Moravian Church, 600 Holly
Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is
assisting the family of Mr. Jones.
