John Franklin "Jack" Perkins
Class of 1947

 

 

John F. ``Jack'' Perkins , 70, died Nov. 28, 2000, at Obici Hospital, Suffolk.

 

A native of Portsmouth, he was the son of the late John O. and Louise S. Perkins . He retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, in 1985 as a planner and estimator.

 

Mr. Perkins was a member of Cradock Baptist Church, Portsmouth, Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge No. 178 and Moose Lodge No. 898. He was an avid golfer and could be seen at Bide-A-Wee Golf Course every day it didn't rain or snow. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

 

Survivors include his wife, Anne S. Perkins ; two sons, J. Mark Perkins and his wife, Marti, and granddaughter, Kate, of Morehead, Ky., and David F. Perkins and his wife, Colleen, and grandchildren, Eliza and Keith of Virginia Beach; three stepchildren, Susan J. Huff and her husband, Brad, and their children, Nicholas and Rebecca of West Bloomfield, Mich., Ellen M. James of Chesapeake and Robert T. James and his wife, Kim, and children, Whitney and John of Suffolk.

 

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Churchland Baptist Church Cemetery by Dr. David R. Denny. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Cradock Baptist Church, 96, Afton Pkwy., Portsmouth, VA 23702.
