Gerald P. Karako, 71, of the 3300 block of Ocean Shore Ave., died Sept. 10, 1998, in a Norfolk hospital.

Born in Oshkosh, Wisc., he was a retired watchmaker and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Portsmouth.

The widower of Frances Carpenito Karako, he is survived by two daughters; two sisters, Jeanette Frye of Portsmouth and Charlotte Arnold of Chesapeake; eight nephews; and three nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Karako.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Olive Branch Cemetery by the Rev. James Carr. The family will be at Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
