CHESAPEAKE - John Thomas Casteen Jr., 88, of the 2300 block of Wildwood Road, passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010. A native of Norfolk County, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of Alliance Church. John worked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard for 37 years and retired in 1978 as a submarine repair production manager. Survivors include his wife, Irene A. Casteen; three sons, John T. Casteen III and wife Betsy, Timothy E. Casteen and wife Ruth and Dennis P. Casteen and wife Janet; a sister, Doris McClenney; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, in The Alliance Church, Portsmouth by the Rev. Doug Ellenberger, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private in Olive Branch Cemetery. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is assisting the family with these arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Men's Bible Class at The Alliance Church, 5809 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth, VA 23701.
