Norfolk - William W. Whitaker, 100, passed away April 3, 2017 at DePaul Hospital
surrounded by loved ones. Born in Berryville,
VA, he was the son of the late Arthur W. and Nellie M. Whitaker. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy May Whitaker, his brothers, Arthur T. Whitaker and Herbert Whitaker, Sr., and a sister, Peggy
Underhill.
Bill was a graduate of Cradock High School
and retired as an accounting manager. He was a proud World War II Veteran who served his country at Normandy during D- Day plus 10 and the Battle
of the Bulge. He and Dot loved traveling, hiking, and gardening. Most of all, Bill loved the Lord and his church, Squires Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he was a Deacon and Elder and sang in the choir. His last years were spent at The Ballentine in Norfolk, where he enjoyed making new friends and touching so many lives with his kind heart, charm, and precious wit.
Left to cherish his memory is his sister-in- law, Marguerite Whitaker, and many nieces and nephews who dearly loved their Uncle Bill.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 7, at 12 pm at Squires Memorial Presbyterian Church, 770 Ingleside Road, Norfolk, VA. A viewing and visitation will precede the service at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Squires Memorial Presbyterian Church. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.woodlawngroup.com.
