Frances Wells Rowe, 77, a retired teacher, died Saturday.
A Peninsula resident for 40 years, Mrs. Rowe moved to Richmond two years ago to live with her daughter.
Before retiring in 1975, Mrs. Rowe taught at Harrisonburg High School and Cradock High School in Portsmouth and for 16 years at Stonewall Jackson Elementary School in Newport News.
A native of Suffolk, she was a graduate of James Madison University.
Mrs. Rowe was a member of Westover Hills United Methodist Church and was immediate past president of the Ladies Bible Class and program chairman for the Betty Swain Circle. She was also Christian Social Involvement chairman for the United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Rowe was a member of the Bermuda Hundred Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and of the James River Woman's Club.
She was the widow of B.B. Rowe.
Surviving is her daughter, B. Anne Rowe; and a son, George Wells Rowe, both of Richmond.
A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Westover Hills United Methodist Church with burial at 3 p.m. at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton.
