Antonio Bilisoly Neimeyer, a beloved Cradock High School science teacher died on April 28, 2005.

He was born in Norfolk in 1928. He was a life long resident of Portsmouth and Chesapeake.

Mr. Niemeyer worked in the Portsmouth Public Schools from 1949 to 1991, a 42-year career as an outstanding educator. He started his career as a teacher in the Cradock High School Science Department and concluded it as an Assistant Superintendent of Schools. All who worked with him knew him as deeply devoted to Portsmouth schoolchildren and his fellow teaching professionals.

He attended and graduated from Virginia Military Institute and had a lifetime love of the school and the traditions of the VMI Keydet Corps.

He was a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Portsmouth.

He was an award winning teacher and school administrator as well as a Portsmouth civic leader.

His wife, Virginia, 3 sons and five grandchildren, survive him.

Burial was in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth, VA. Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel handled arrangements.

Mr. Neimeyer was renowned at Cradock for his Physics and Biology Classes. He guided many Cradock boys to attendance at VMI and used his considerable influence at the Institute and within the community to obtain scholarships for many of them. Among them were Johnny Butler (CHS 57), Rodney Hollowell (CHS 57), Pete Stelmack (CHS 58), Bill Harris (CHS 58) and Bob Spence (CHS 59). He made an impression on all of them and earned their gratitude for life. He was one of those teachers who earned an “Unforgettable” ranking. Many Cradock students of the fifties became lifelong friends and admirers of Bill Niemeyer.
