Anne Tillery Day LeCompte, 92, of the 4400 block of Gannon Road, died May 31, 1996, in her home.

Born in Halifax, N.C., Mrs. LeCompte was the daughter of the late Mary Lue Thomas and Capt. Robert Joyner Day, C.S.A., and the widow of Whitney Augustus LeCompte Sr. She was a longtime member of Cradock Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served on many committees. More recently she attended First Presbyterian Church of Portsmouth, where she was a member of the Westminster Class. Mrs. LeCompte retired from Cradock High School in 1969, having served as dietician for over 25 years. She had been a member of the Pilot Club, The Woman's Clubs of Portsmouth and Cradock, and the Cradock Music Club. She had also served as a Red Cross Volunteer and as a member of the Canteen Corps during World War II.

Survivors include her son, Whitney A. LeCompte; four grandchildren, Garnet Anne LeCompte-Spaulding and husband, Michael of San Antonio, N.M.; Margaret L. Basques and husband, Rudy of Santa Rosa, Calif., Guy Whitney LeCompte and wife, Anthnette, of Portsmouth, and Kenneth Lawrence LeCompte and wife, Frances, of Sacramento, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Etan LeCompte and wife, Leanne, Shaleen Mason; Darnnell Mason and Brittney N. LeCompte; a nephew, Dr. Thomas Day McCahill and wife, Anne, of Richmond; great-nieces, Kathleen McCahill and Mary Margaret Vallieres; a dear first cousin, Betty Thomas Hawthorne of Statesville, N.C.; Mary Gay Calcott of Salisbury, Md.; and the Langston family of Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church of Portsmouth by the Dr. Walter Kennedy and Dr. Emory Byrum. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Foster Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to the Organ Funds at either First Presbyterian Church of Portsmouth, or Cradock Baptist Church.
