Walter Daniel Graham Sr., 76, of the 800 block of Normandy Drive, died June 15, 2002 in Obici Hospital.

He was a native of Roanoke County, Va., and was the son of the late William Elbert Graham and Telitha Fralin Graham. He was predeceased by a daughter, Julie G. Jones; three sisters; and two brothers. Mr. Graham served in the Army Air Corps in the European theater during World War II. He graduated from Schoolfield High School in Danville, received his bachelor's degree from Elon College and his master's degree from the University of Virginia. He retired as an elementary school principal in Portsmouth after serving in that school system for more than 30 years.

He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church, where he taught Sunday school for more than 25 years, was a member of the Chancel Choir for more than 25 years and served as moderator for three terms. Mr. Graham held many other offices and served on numerous boards and committees throughout the years. He was a past member and officer of the Bethlehem Ruritan Club and also served as lieutenant governor for the Holland District.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyne Moore Graham of Suffolk; daughter and son-in-law, Lynne G. and Darrel W. Johnston of Suffolk; son and daughter-in-law, Walter D. ``Danny'' Graham Jr. and Leigh Ann G. Graham of Suffolk; grandchildren, Wesley G. Jones, Jobi L. Jones, Claudia L. Graham and Olivia A. Graham, all of Suffolk; a great-grandchild, Whitney Jones of Suffolk; brother and sister-in-law, Lewis E. and Jean Graham of Danville; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Bethlehem Christian Church by the Rev. Jonathan Palmer. Interment will be in Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Harrell & Hill Funeral Home and other times at the daughter's home, 1287 Holland Road, Suffolk.
